I had high hopes...

...but sadly, the cooties found Juliana.

And boy, did they ever.

Poor baby battled a nasty fever today. One that started in the 101s this morning and left her crying uncontrollably when it neared 104. The good thing is that it appears she has won the battle. Her fever is finally down to below 100 and she is talking, walking, eating and enjoying a warm bath with her sister.

...but only after a really, really rough day that had the two of us in a cold bath together at one point. This bug is a fickle one and laughs at Tylenol.s attempts to defeat it. The generic ibuprofen would at least get it down to the high 101s, low 102s, but when it was Tylenol.s turn...forget it (and no, this isn't the liquid version, but rather the chewables...so no, I didn't ignore the recall...don't worry). At one point after her fever dropped 2 degrees after our cold bath, she had about 2 minutes of on and off whole-body twitching. It wasn't constant twitching/jerking as in a typical seizure, but something was going on. When I asked her if she was moving her body, she said it was "doing it by itself." The pediatrician just so happened to call about a minute afterwards and while he was a little stumped by it, he wasn't overly concerned. He told us we could bump the meds up a bit to really get a handle on it and it worked.

What made me sad was that it was a furlough day for me and grandma had taken the day off to join us in Santa Barbara for a visit to the zoo, lunch, and fun. It's JUNE people and our immune systems seem to have not received the memo and if they did, they are ignoring it 100%.

Oh well. For now I will just have to relish in the giggles and splashes that are coming from the bathroom and know she's is on the mend. I just hope that we can hold the fever at bay overnight and that the looming sore throat which should hit hard tomorrow isn't quite so bad.

Checking in...

I know I've been a bad blogger of late, but really...I just haven't had it in me. Tons of thoughts, ideas, posts running through my head and no energy to actually get them down in a post. I have been otherwise occupied with sickies (myself included), cleaning, work, or just enjoying family and friends time and something has to give a little...okay, maybe a lot.

I feel as if we have been sick for more than a month and just when I think we are coming around and getting well, we get slammed again. If the girls aren't bringing something home, I am. And if it's not me, it's my mom who works at a pharmacy. There you have it--the girls' preschool, my elementary school, and my mom's pharmacy...three places covered in cooties of all kinds and designs and we take turns bringing them home to share. Lovely. I bet that makes YOU want to come visit.

For the moment, we are almost well. Good enough for government work in my book. Mia is getting over a viral sore throat that looked nasty and was very painful. Even the doctor was convinced it was strep. We are all poised and ready though...wondering who is next? Or maybe, just maybe, we might be able to avoid passing this bug around. Fingers crossed people. Fingers crossed.

I'm also finding that I've needed a break from the internet. I belong to a few infertility forums and posting there can get overwhelming. I'm not reading many blogs. The house is a little cleaner. The laundry a little less piled up. I've been frequenting the gym, the yoga studio, and going for walk/jogs trying to lose this weight before starting meds again for another try at Little Lewis #3 (weight which I soooo hope I can avoid putting back on).

(....that is, unless I get pregnant. In that case, I will happily put it ALL back on and MORE).

The end of the school year is approaching for the girls and for me at work. Preschool ends next week, but they will do 1-2 days per week of preschool summer camp for 8 weeks so it won't really feel like it is ending completely for them. Continuity is a good thing when you are 3...almost 4...GULP. (FOUR????)

I have 3 more weeks of school. Yes. THREE more weeks since our last day is the 25th. Tomorrow is a furlough day, so while I'm missing the money, I'm grateful for a 4 day weekend since I don't work Mondays. Report cards are looming...the Dog and Pony Show Open House is next week...and I still really don't know my grade level for next year which is causing a teeny bit of anxiety. I was given my grade level last week and my principal is reconsidering. Deep breathe NOW.

The camera bag is collecting dust. The book I was reading has been, um, shelved. The "to file pile" at home is close to overtaking the desk, but thankfully we can just close the door to the office and it magically disappears. Love that.

All in all, we are doing well. I shouldn't be complaining. We have amazing family and friends surrounding us. We have great, secure jobs. We have a beautiful home. A summer of fun is very near. And we are just pluggin' along. It's nice, but the pessimist realist in me is always wondering when and where the hammer will fall next. I'm just hoping it doesn't.

Man down! Um, make that 5 down!

The official scorecard from Thursday, 5/13 to Monday, 5/17:

The Big Bad Stomach Bug: 5
Lewis Family: 1
Grandma & Grandpa: 0

Daddy seems to be the sole survivor. We thought Grandpa was going to escape this evil bug unscathed, however he, too, fell victim early this morning. Sorry Grandpa.

...and sadly, we didn't walk on Saturday, but rather spent the day in bed passing trash cans and towels.

We are all in recovery mode at this point with upset tummies (still) and the occasional dry heave. We won't mention the other yucky stuff still going on.

Good times. Good times.
