Man down! Um, make that 5 down!

The official scorecard from Thursday, 5/13 to Monday, 5/17:

The Big Bad Stomach Bug: 5
Lewis Family: 1
Grandma & Grandpa: 0

Daddy seems to be the sole survivor. We thought Grandpa was going to escape this evil bug unscathed, however he, too, fell victim early this morning. Sorry Grandpa.

...and sadly, we didn't walk on Saturday, but rather spent the day in bed passing trash cans and towels.

We are all in recovery mode at this point with upset tummies (still) and the occasional dry heave. We won't mention the other yucky stuff still going on.

Good times. Good times.

Mother's Day

It's a day that fills me with such joy and gratitude, yet also a great sense of humility and even sadness.

I have a difficult time enjoying this day to it's fullest...mostly because I have too many dear friends for whom this day is tainted, painful, and even bittersweet.

These amazing women, are women who...

...long for children each and every day, yet the possibility of that happening seems so remote, so hopeless.

...are missing one, two, and even more, little faces at the dinner table and find themselves caught in the in-betweens...so incredibly grateful for the children in their arms, yet in the very same breath are grieving for the children they have lost.

It just seems so hard to celebrate fully a day that excludes some women by no fault of their own and leaves other women toggling between happiness and grief, moment after moment.

I suppose it's hitting home a little harder than usual because the last five months have taken us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and we've been so quickly thrust back into the face of infertiity. Yes...we've been trying for Little Lewis #3, medical team in tow. Two seemingly perfect, but physically and emotionally difficult cycles over 5 months...and nothing. Of course, we are going to keep trying, but I'm beginning to see now, even more so than before, what miracles my two little girls really are. I just hate that the one thing that should be so natural and so easy...is so difficult and seems so impossible right now.

And while I know it's not impossible...it just feels that way.

So as this day comes to an end, you can be certain I will give my girls just one more kiss good-night and a whispered "I love you" in their little ears.

Juliana and Mia,
I love you more than you will ever know....you are a dream come true, an answered prayer...
living, breathing, beautiful, little miracles...

Thank you God, for giving me the gift of my girls...the gift of motherhood.

Spa Day...

...preschool-style. A complete surprise and so much fun.

And now mommy REALLY needs a manicure and pedicure for Mother's Day! But secretly, I know you wish your nails looked like mine do at this very moment. I managed to clean up my fingers a little bit for work tomorrow. The toes...I don't even know where to start, and since I just about passed out from the fumes while taking off the finger nail polish, I'm going to need a gas mask to do those. Guess it's a tenny day tomorrow! No sandals...oh, NO.

But really, such a sweet, sweet surprise when I went to their class today. Not having had any other children go through the program, I had no idea what was planned. I love my girls so very much, but doubt either one of them has a career in nails.

I can't believe I'm posting this pic since I look horrible, but I'm with my girls. I do have a couple good excuses...I'm sick (really, I have a cold/flu thing going on) and have put on about 10 pounds in the last 5 months due to some medications. Hoping that the the cold/flu goes away very soon and those 10 pounds do, too...I'm working on that, but was a little sidelined this week.

A good day...so incredibly thankful, on so many levels...
